What is ISI Mark?
The ISI, or Indian Standards Institute, was renamed the Bureau of Indian Standards in 1987. The ISI Mark is the official certification granted by the Bureau to producers across various sectors. Since its introduction in 1955, this mark has symbolized quality, safety, and trust. It serves as a conformity mark for industrial products, assuring consumers that items meet the Indian Standards (IS) established by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). ISI Mark Registration involves obtaining this certification for any product that complies with these standards. Several electrical appliances, such as electric irons, room heaters, air conditioners, electric stoves, freezers, and products like UPVC pipes, rubber and leather footwear, composite cements, and various acids, require mandatory ISI marks.
Importance of ISI Certification
- The ISI Mark Certificate enables manufacturers to freely manufacture and sell their products across India.
- BIS certification allows manufacturers to display the Standard Mark, or ISI Mark, on products that fall under the mandatory certification scheme. Producing these items without the ISI Mark can lead to significant fines, imprisonment, or both.
- The ISI Mark on any product enhances consumer safety and health, fostering trust.
- BIS-certified products guarantee high quality and consumer satisfaction, which can boost revenue.
Did you know that ISI Mark Certification is mandatory for over 200 products in India? While obtaining a BIS license is voluntary, the BIS has made certification compulsory for certain items to protect consumers from counterfeit and substandard goods.
Mandatory Documents Required
- Factory or company registration documents
- A flowchart of the manufacturing process
- Documentation of in-house manufacturing capabilities and any outsourcing agreements, if applicable
- Adequate facilities for testing
- Records of Quality Control Parameters.
- Acceptance of the Scheme of Testing & Inspection, payment of the Annual Marking fee, laboratory product testing reports, and other information as per BIS norms.
Conclusion
We assist manufacturers in obtaining the ISI Mark for a wide range of products, including aluminum foils, safety glasses, FRK blending machines, PVC insulated cables, toys, helmets, and other items covered under the Product Certification Scheme. Our aim is to help manufacturers have their products tested and verified to receive the ISI Mark in India under the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme. We provide valuable guidance and support throughout the entire process. Please note that, according to Regulation 11 of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018, the Bureau has the authority to revoke the license if any of the license conditions are violated.
